It’s no surprise that Bruno Guimaraes is a wanted man after another strong season with Newcastle United.
The midfielder is starring for Brazil at the World Cup too, playing a superb pass to set up Gabriel Martinelli’s late winner against Japan in the last 32.
Arsenal, it seems, want to make Guimaraes a team-mate of Martinelli’s at club level, but signing the 28-year-old might not be easy.

Contract clause strengthens Newcastle position
According to Shields Gazette, Newcastle have an option to extend Guimaraes’ contract by an extra year.
His current deal runs until 2028, so that means the Brazilian could, in theory, be tied down until 2029.
That means Newcastle can be more forthright in any negotiations for the player, who they have insisted is not for sale.
It remains to be seen, though, if Guimaraes has had his head turned by the prospect of a move to the Premier League champions, where his salary would increase and he would again play Champions League football.
Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte previously reported that the midfielder has a £60m release clause in his contract, but that has been disputed.
Arsenal have yet to make a formal approach for Guimaraes, and his age could mean the Gunners are unwilling to spend huge money.
But he is said to be “seriously considering” an exit, and Newcastle fans were left worried when he liked a post from Fabrizio Romano on Instagram linking him to Arsenal.
Guimaraes has been at Newcastle since 2022, when he joined the Premier League side from French outfit Lyon.
He has gone on to play a key role in a team that has twice qualified for the Champions League under Eddie Howe, though last season’s 12th-placed finish in the Premier League was a disappointment.
Guimaraes has earned 47 caps for Brazil, registering four assists so far at the World Cup.
