Bruno Fernandes joins forces with Jurgen Klopp to slam Gabby Agbonlahor's Man Utd comments

Bruno Fernandes has responded to Gabriel Agbonlahor ’s disparaging Man Utd comments by stating that he does not ‘worry’ about the former Aston Villa man’s opinion.

The ex-Premier League forward and now talkSPORT pundit took aim at the Red Devils last week following their 4-0 humbling at the hands of Thomas Frank’s Brentford. He slammed the side as “amateur” picking out the Portuguese schemer for criticism by stating he could be the "worst teammate".

It goes without saying that Agbonlahor’s thoughts have not gone down particularly well both at United or elsewhere. Star midfielder Fernandes has suggested that the comments do not concern him and that he instead pays far more attention to the opinions of his friends and former teammates.

As quoted by Portuguese outlet Record, he said: "It's honestly not something that worries me too much. He's [Agbonlahor] never played with me, he doesn't know how I am.

“Just yesterday I told my wife, who spoke to me [about] this interview and I said 'you know what calms me down?' It's just that two days ago a person called Juan Mata, world champion, European champion, winner of the Champions, all in England, said to me 'you were the best people I've met in football, continue like that, being yourself, with that honesty, this ability to work'.

“If someone says that... you know how I am. Boring, because I demand it, but because I am demanding with myself and I also demand it from others.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp also leapt to the defence of his United counterparts earlier this week by claiming during his pre-match press conference that he was tempted to call into talkSPORT in response to Agbonlahor’s comments.

"It was not a nice week for United after Brentford. We forget how good Brentford are," the German said. “I watched the first half and drove home, listened to talkSPORT and Gabby…[Agbonlahor] he lost against us 6-0 in my first year, I couldn’t remember him as a mentality monster on the pitch.

“What he said about United on that show, I was close to calling in. I was close to calling in and telling him, you forgot completely what it’s like to be a player. It was unbelievable! When ex-players go like this then you can imagine how everything else is going.”

Ahead of Man Utd’s clash with great rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford, they have been buoyed by reaching an agreement for the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro. The Brazilian is set to seal a £59m switch and will pen a four-year deal with the club.

He will not be eligible to make his debut for the Red Devils on Monday after the club missed the deadline to register him.
