Bruno Fernandes has bridged the intense rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool to send Diogo Jota a message after Portugal moved a step closer to the World Cup on Thursday night. Jota was on target for his country during an important 3-1 victory against Turkey.
Otavio and Portugal substitute Matheus Nunes also scored at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto, booking a meeting with North Macedonia after their heroic win over Euro 2020 winners Italy. The winner of that play-off showdown is set to appear at the 2022 finals in Qatar.
Fernandes was joined in the Portugal team by his United teammates Diogo Dalot and Cristiano Ronaldo. Of course, five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo captained the XI - but it was Jota who took centre stage.

Liverpool star Jota struck the post during the build-up to Otavio's early opener, before heading home the second late in the first half. Turkey captain Burak Yilmaz went from hero to villain, offering his side a lifeline before missing a VAR-awarded penalty.
Following that late drama, Jota addressed his Instagram followers. A translated message read: "Let's go @Portugal. We count on your support for the grand finale. Towards Qatar."
Fernandes replied: "This head doesn't fail." Winning his 41st cap on Thursday night, the United sensation was subbed off for the final 10 minutes as Portugal held on for the victory.
