Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike removes park sign on walking direction

BENGALURU: The BBMP has removed a signboard asking people to walk only in one direction at a park in Koramangala VI Block.

The move comes days after TOI published a report on how some parks in the city are sporting boards insisting that people walk in only one direction. BBMP also clarified that it has not passed any order restricting people from running, jogging or walking anti-clockwise in parks.

The report had also referred to a park in the city where anti-clockwise walking is banned. The location of this park could not be verified.

BBMP sources said locals or members of residents’ welfare associations set their own rules for parks in their areas. Many visitors say walking only in one direction is suggested to prevent walkers from bumping into each other, as the same could lead to falls.

BBMP special commissioner (estate/parks/lakes) Ram Prasanth Manohar said he has directed his subordinates in all zones to find such boards and remove them.
