It has been a strong rookie campaign for fourth round rookie right tackle Dawand Jones. He has struggled at times as a run blocker in his first season with the Cleveland Browns, but as a pass protector, he has been as good as it gets. It still amazes me each and every week he is on the field that he fell to the fourth round in April’s draft. The strong rookie campaign got another accomplishment on Sunday when Jones shut down T.J. Watt when he was on the field.
Watt’s sack did not come against Jones who matched up with Watt on a total of 19 pass-blocking snaps. In those 19 snaps, Jones did not allow a single pressure and was only beat on a singular rep.
It is one thing when you are dominant on random players but when you go against the league’s best and don’t blink you deserve praise and respect. Jones will go down as one of the biggest draft steals with a long career ahead of him.
