After being nominated for FedEx Air Player of the Week for three straight weeks, quarterback Joe Flacco has finally won the award after his performance as the Browns dismantled the Houston Texans.
On the day, Flacco threw for a massive 368 yards, three touchdowns, and completed 64 percent of his passes. This aerial assault of the Texans led to a historic day for wide receiver Amari Cooper, who racked up a franchise record 265 yards receiving on the day, scoring two touchdowns as well. Cooper also became the first receiver in Browns’ history to accumulate 1,000 yards receiving in back-to-back seasons.
Since taking over as the starting quarterback in Week 13, Flacco has already amassed an astounding 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns as the Browns have unlocked an element of downfield passing that has been missing.
As they take on the New York Jets on Thursday night looking to clinch their first playoff berth since 2020, they will need more of the same against one of the more stout passing defenses they have faced all year.
