Fans of the Cleveland Browns are up in arms and divided over the potential dome that could be coming to Northeast Ohio. Just another offseason in Cleveland, yeah?
Many make the argument that playing in the elements is what makes football in Northeast Ohio different and special. Others argue that it is a more enjoyable experience for fans, and creates the opportunity for the city of Cleveland to host other major sporting events. This is what The Athletic’s Jason Lloyd argues as he reports the Browns are serious about adding a roofed facility.
But let’s be honest, playing outside amongst the winds of Lake Erie has provided the Browns no competitive advantage. Even further, an open-air stadium has cut off the Browns and the city from outside revenue for 50 percent of the year as concerts, conference championship games, and more cannot be hosted in their current stadium.
Regardless of one’s stance, it has caused quite an uproar on social media. Here are the best of the best reactions from the new report that the Browns want a dome in Cleveland.
Stan Kroenke paid $5 billion of his own money for the Rams to build SoFi Stadium. He didn't do that to lose money. Stadiums are profitable.
Jimmy Haslam just sold his fuel company to Warren Buffett for about $14 billion.
The State of Ohio shouldn't give Jimmy Haslam a dime. https://t.co/D8NVUb8X0O

Tax $ is tax $ so it could all certainly be better served going elsewhere. And Haslam should absolutely pay for it. But the fact is, this is how it works. And if the city isn’t going to give it to them somebody else is. Virtuous, sure, but a serious city can’t lose a team twice. https://t.co/iF7G5ZfzAh

1. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Browns' stadium. Grown adults whining that they don't have a more comfortable shopping mall to watch football in is extremely ridiculous, embarrassing, and an affront to the history of football in Northeast Ohio.
2. Football is an… https://t.co/KxUgXXNMlQ

If they are that serious, they can buy the land, build it themselves and earn all of the proceeds from the 300 events per year they could host.
And as a bonus, they'd do wonders for their local image. https://t.co/bsXRmMv4yP

Just said that Minnesota did it, why can’t Cleveland … sports betting, weed and cigs are a great place to start the discussion about the dome tax https://t.co/sQ2xSdjvuu pic.twitter.com/GLUVhyMSdU

All of this is absurd. Claims to be not taking away money from education or taxing constituents more but ???
The money yanked to pay for a building used 1-2 times per month could’ve went… somewhere! https://t.co/xOnkdetqk2 pic.twitter.com/6QrASpGajS

Love the comments. Jimmy Haslam isn’t paying for the entire thing just because you don’t like him. That’s not how this works. https://t.co/wSHjr3zyv2

I've been a Cleveland sports fan for 40 years and lived in the city for the last 15. I'm so tired of this city being dirt poor. I'm tired of my kids' school being underfunded. I'm tired all the poverty and blight. I'm not interested in giving away another dollar to a billionaire https://t.co/MwqwC3cwSs

Minnesota’s stadium cost $1.1bil w/taxpayers covering approximately $348mil of that. Get ready to pay up Cleveland taxpayers. https://t.co/2llQAKPkWN

I love the dome debate. I’m 50/50 on it currently. I can make arguments for or against it. But whenever I return as a fan and Watson is gone it’s interesting to think I could be watching a Browns December game in a nice warm building. https://t.co/qDYvoJAmcf

Haslam can afford it. But, even in a public/private partnership, we are beholden to a guy whose business dealings are…um…er…kinda shady.
And he'll recoup his portion rather easily, in a lot of ways. All premium-priced, to boot. https://t.co/xnDlRaNVD6

I abhor the idea of the Browns playing in a dome. I’m a season ticket holder and go every home game, the only reason most people want a dome is so they can feel like they’re watching a game on TV the one game they attend every 3 seasons. This isn’t about season ticket holders or… https://t.co/NYzNutAklP

When Justin Bibb became mayor of Cleveland, one of his speeches to people on the community was to use the funding around the city for schools, road constructions, and people staying in the community. I would love for the Browns to have a dome but our city needs more than sports https://t.co/ngbNwUz0Ng

The weather does not benefit the Browns in any way!
A dome team came in and kicked the Browns ass two years ago and completely crushed that narrative #BuildTheDome https://t.co/NKyQ2WSVFG

The dome stadium for the #Browns is coming whether that is in downtown Cleveland or outside the city but it is clear that it is coming.
It’s simple the city gives the Haslam’s what they want and the new stadium is downtown or they don’t and new stadium is outside the city.…
