Broughty Ferry beach drama as late-night search launched for youths on inflatable

Tayside Police have appealed for help following a late night drama at Broughty Ferry beach. A report was received at about 11pm on Sunday night of two youths in difficulty on an inflatable.

Officers rushed to the scene and two lifeboats from the local RNLI station were launched.

However despite their best efforts they found no trace of the pair.

A HM Coastguard spokesman said: “Broughty Ferry RNLI inshore and all weather lifeboats and the Dundee Coastguard Rescue Team searched an area around Broughty Ferry last night after a report of people possibly in difficulty, but nothing was found.”

While a Police Scotland spokesman added: “Police Scotland are appealing for information after a report was received about 2300 hours Sunday 24 July 2022, regarding two youths seen in floating on an inflatable in the water of Broughty Ferry Beach.

Another group were on an inflatable and were caught out by the tide in a separate incident on Tuesday afternoon. (RNLI)

“If you have any information regarding these youths, can you please contact Police Scotland on 101.

“Incident PS-20220724-3924 refers.”

The incident followed a busy week for the RNLI crew who carried out a number of rescues of stand-up paddle boarders and a group of six children and an adult in a large inflatable.
