Brother and sister tragically killed after 'setting fire to their own house'

A brother and sister who tragically died in a house fire are believed to have started the blaze themselves.

Alan McGinty, 68, and his sister Linda, 63, sadly lost their lives in a fire at a property on March 28.

Police were called to the home in Canterbury, Bradford, at approximately 6.38am after being alerted by the ambulance and fire services. The pair were confirmed to have died at the scene.

Following the blaze, Bradford CID launched an investigation into the incident alongside West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Now, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has shared details of its fire probe ahead of a meeting of the Fire Authority on June 30, Yorkshire Live reports.

A report to the Fire Authority on the subject of fatal fires states: "Ringwood Road, Bradford. The fatalities in this incident were brother and sister aged 68 and 63 respectively.

"They lived in a mid-terraced house. There were two separate seats of fire, and it is believed that the fires were started deliberately by the two individuals."

Following their tragic deaths, neighbours said that they were devastated by what had occurred. One neighbour described Alan and Linda as 'very reclusive'.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "I am really shocked and devastated at what has happened to Alan and Linda. I have lived here for 12 to 13 years so knew them very well. It is just really sad.

"Their mother, Doreen, died recently too. They were all very reclusive but after Doreen died we used to see a bit more of them.

"We used to pay someone to mow their grass for them when it got too high. It is really devastating what has happened."
