Rookie Bronny James will be sitting out of Sunday's California Classic summer league game in San Francisco due to trace swelling in his left knee, as confirmed by a Los Angeles Lakers spokesperson to ESPN. This precautionary measure is being taken to ensure James' health and well-being.
James is expected to return to the court for the Lakers' final Classic game against the Miami Heat on Wednesday. In his summer league debut against the Sacramento Kings, the No. 55 pick in last month's draft scored four points on 2-of-9 shooting in 22 minutes of play.
Lakers summer league coach Dane Johnson emphasized the importance of James' development, stating that the young player needs to continue learning and gaining experience to understand his capabilities on the court. Johnson highlighted James' potential to drive to the basket using his body effectively and encouraged him to build confidence in his abilities.
The Lakers' focus is on providing James with ample opportunities to practice and improve during the remaining summer league games, both in San Francisco and later in Las Vegas, which is set to begin later this week.
