Broncos showing interest in free agent pass rusher Randy Gregory

The NFL’s free agency negotiating window opened Monday and the Denver Broncos are pursuing one of the top pass rushers available.

The Broncos are among “multiple teams showing interest” in 29-year-old veteran Randy Gregory, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Gregory (6-5, 258 pounds) played as a defensive end with the Dallas Cowboys, but he would likely play as an outside linebacker in Denver’s 3-4 defense. In today’s NFL, the name of his position is somewhat of a matter of semantics — he’s an edge defender who primarily rushes the quarterback.

Gregory was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft out of Nebraska. Since then, he’s totaled 85 tackles, 52 quarterback hits, 16.5 sacks and eight forced fumbles in 50 career games.

Gregory has never played an entire 16- or 17-game season due to various suspensions and injuries. He was available for 12 games last year and totaled six sacks. Gregory was suspended for all of the 2017 and 2019 seasons for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
