Latavius Murray’s brief stint with the Denver Broncos might be over.
Murray joined the team mid-season in 2022 when the Broncos were battling multiple injuries at running back. The 33-year-old veteran went on to lead the team with 703 rushing yards and five touchdowns in seven starts.
There has been speculation this offseason that Denver could re-sign Murray to have more depth with Javonte Williams working his way back from a knee injury. However, the Broncos have already signed a younger running back in Samaje Perine (27), and Murray is exploring other opportunities.
Murray visited the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. That means, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis, that Murray is “unlikely” to return to Denver for the 2023 season.
Broncos fans and pundits had good reason to speculate about a Murray reunion — he played under Sean Payton with the New Orleans Saints from 2019-2020, and the coach spoke glowingly about Murray this offseason.
It appears, though, that Denver will move forward with Williams and Perine as their primary running backs. Perhaps the team will draft a third RB later this month.
