On Monday, the Denver Broncos announced they are planning to release quarterback Russell Wilson at the start of the league year. This is a move in the making since the midway point of the 2023 season and was expected as a cost-cutting measure and allow the Broncos to go in another direction.
This is important to the Pittsburgh Steelers because Wilson is one of several veteran quarterbacks connected to the Steelers by reports and rumors. In this case, it was former Bengals receiver Chad Johnson who noted he heard Wilson was going to be a Steeler.
Truth be told, there have been so many conflicting reports about whether the Steelers are eyeing a veteran quarterback or not, our heads are spinning. It is hard to find a metric other than youth where Kenny Pickett is better than Wilson, but at this point we aren’t going to hold our breath that the Steelers have any plans at quarterback aside from Pickett.
