DENVER — Denver Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy was arrested Thursday in Arapahoe County in connection with a domestic violence investigation.
Jeudy was booked into jail on a misdemeanor charge of second-degree criminal tampering, with a domestic violence sentence enhancer, according to the sheriff’s office.
He is currently being held without bond, awaiting an appearance before a judge.
At a late-afternoon press conference, Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown said “there was no physical contact” as part of the investigation.
The woman who made the complaint was described as being in an “ongoing relationship” with Jeudy and the couple have a 1-month-old child. Sheriff’s officials allege Jeudy withheld property from the woman, including a wallet, a child car seat and paperwork involving the child. The woman was wanting to leave a residence and couldn’t because she couldn’t access the property in question, which was allegedly locked in a vehicle. None of the property was destroyed or damaged.
A person commits second-degree criminal tampering if he “tampers with property of another with intent to cause injury, inconvenience or annoyance to that person or to another, or if he knowingly makes an unauthorized connection with property of a utility,” according to Colorado statute.
Jeudy, who was taken into custody, without incident, between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., is being investigated. He has not been formally charged. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday morning.
A protection order will be filed in the case after Jeudy’s first appearance in court, Brown said.
He was arrested on probable cause and there is no arrest-warrant affidavit in the case, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies were called to an address and the investigation developed.
On Thursday afternoon, the Broncos released a statement: “We are aware of the matter involving Jerry Jeudy and are in the process of gathering more information.”
Jeudy, 23, has been attending the Broncos’ offseason program workouts, including last month’s voluntary minicamp.
A first-round draft pick from Alabama in 2020, Jeudy has 90 catches for 1,323 yards and three touchdowns in 26 career games.
