Broncos QB Bo Nix eager to compete against Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes

Last week, Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix met two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. This week, Nix will meet another two-time NFL MVP in Patrick Mahomes, who also has three Super Bowl MVPs on his resume.

The Kansas City Chiefs (8-0) will host the Broncos (5-4) on Sunday in an AFC West showdown featuring the NFL’s only remaining undefeated team.

“I’ve obviously watched him for a long time since he was putting up really good numbers in college and now obviously in the league, you know he’s the best in the league right now,” Nix said of Mahomes on Wednesday. “Everyone is trying to match him. Everybody’s trying to catch up I feel like. He does a great job of just being himself, playing within the system and makes plays when his team needs him to.”

Mahomes has had a bit of a down year compared to his usual standards with 1,942 passing yards and 11 touchdowns against nine interceptions through eight games. Nix has posted 1,753 yards and eight touchdowns against six interceptions through his first nine games in the NFL.

Going up against a division rival, Denver is considered a big underdog this week. Nix wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I love it,” Nix said of Sunday’s challenge. “I think this is the epitome of why you want to play in the NFL. You want to play against these defenses. You want to play against these legendary coaches. You want to play against these Hall of Fame quarterbacks. So I think it’s the best. I think when you get to play in this kind of matchup, it’s much better than playing, maybe, a team that you know you have the advantage over.

“So I think it’s going to be fun. It’s going to be tough. I think the mindset and the attitude going in with a tough game, I think that’s the most important part. You want to play in these big games. You want to play the tough ones because if they were all easy, everybody could do it.”

Sunday’s game will be regionally televised on CBS (view the TV map).
