Broncos’ projected order of picks for 2024 NFL draft

Following the conclusion of the NFL combine, attention will now turn to free agency, which unofficially begins one week from today.

After free agency, the next big event on the offseason calendar will be the 2024 NFL draft in April.

The Denver Broncos currently hold six picks to use in the 2024 NFL draft, but they would like to acquire more selections through trades this spring.

Denver does not hold a second-round pick following the trade for coach Sean Payton last year. The team’s exact placement of picks beyond the third round is still to be determined pending the NFL handing out compensatory picks. While we wait for the official order to be released, here’s a quick look at the team’s projected picks (keep in mind this is not official).

Round 1: own pick (12th overall)
Round 3: via NO (Sean Payton trade)
Round 4: via MIA (Bradley Chubb trade)
Round 5: own pick
Round 5: via NYJ (Jake Marin trade)
Round 6: via SF (Randy Gregory trade)

We won’t know the Broncos’ official order of picks until the NFL confirms it, but here’s our best effort at breaking down all the trades:

  • Denver’s original 2nd-round pick went to the Saints as part of the Payton trade.
  • The Broncos’ original 3rd-round pick went to the Seahawks as part of the Riley Moss draft-day trade in 2023.
  • Denver’s original 4th-round pick was traded to the Jets as part of the Jake Martin trade in 2022. Denver got a 5th-round pick from NY in the deal.
  • The Broncos got a 4th-round pick from the Dolphins as part of the Bradley Chubb trade in 2022.
  • Denver’s original 6th-round pick went to the Rams as part of the Kenny Young trade in 2021.
  • The Broncos got a 6th-round pick from the 49ers as part of the Randy Gregory trade last season.
  • Denver got a 7th-round pick back from San Francisco, but the Broncos sent a 7th-round pick to L.A. as part of the Young trade three years ago, then they traded a 7th-round pick to the Saints for kicker Wil Lutz last year, leaving them without a last-round pick.

Because of the number of trades Denver has made, it’s not exactly clear which picks are original and which are from other teams, but it looks like the Broncos should have six selections before making any additional trades. The 2024 NFL draft will be held in Detroit from April 25-27.
