Broncos injuries: Good initial news for Jerry Jeudy, Pat Surtain

The Denver Broncos received positive news on the injury front after Sunday’s 16-9 win over the Houston Texans.

Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (ribs) had X-rays come back negative on Sunday evening, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Jeudy will undergo more tests, but that’s a positive early report.

Jeudy will be considered “day-to-day” this week and his status for Week 3 is still to-be-determined, according to Klis. Even if Jeudy is not able to play on Sunday, his day-to-day status is a good sign that it’s not believed to be a long-term injury.

Jeudy caught one pass for 11 yards before leaving Sunday’s game. The team initially described his ailment as a shoulder injury, but coach Nathaniel Hackett called it a rib injury after the game. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport called it a “chest/sternum” injury on Monday.

Meanwhile, cornerback Pat Surtain (shoulder) is also considered “day-to-day” after undergoing tests, according to NFL Network. That’s great news overall as it’s a sign that Surtain is not expected to be sidelined for an extended period.

If Jeudy has to miss any games, Kendall Hinton would be a candidate to get called up from the practice squad. If Surtain misses any time, rookie Damarri Mathis appears to be the top choice to get more snaps at cornerback.
