Broncos GM George Paton will leave ‘no stone unturned’ in QB search

Teddy Bridgewater is about to become a free agent and while the Denver Broncos have not ruled out re-signing him, it’s clear that Bridgewater is not the long-term solution at quarterback.

Drew Lock has one year remaining on his contract and — depending on how this offseason goes — he might get a chance to compete for the starting job. Brett Rypien remains a backup candidate.

So where does that leave the Broncos at QB?

“I think it’s always a priority,” general manager George Paton said Tuesday when asked about the position. “It’s the most important position in sports, so we’re always looking. We do have Drew Lock under contract, we have ‘Ryp.’ But we’re always looking. No stone unturned to find that guy. We know we need better play out of the quarterback position. So we’re going to be aggressive.”

Denver’s front office and coaching staff hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Lock getting another shot in 2022, but Paton has also implied at least one quarterback will be added to the roster this offseason. It remains to be seen what route the team will take to acquire a QB.

“We just want the best guy,” Paton said. “We don’t care if it’s free agency; we don’t care if it’s the draft; we don’t care if it’s a trade. We’re going to exhaust all options to try to get the best guy for the Broncos.”
