Broncos defeat Packers 19-17 to secure 2nd win of season

The Denver Broncos defeated the Green Bay Packers 19-17 at home on Sunday, improving to 2-5 on the season.

Broncos running back Javonte Williams scored a four-yard rushing touchdown on the team’s opening drive but the score was nullified by a holding penalty. After that, Denver had to settle for a field goal to make it 3-0 midway through the first quarter.

After forcing a Packers punt, the Broncos had another field goal drive that extended their lead to 6-0 early in the second quarter. Green Bay later missed a 43-yard field goal attempt just before halftime. Denver then went 50 yards in 36 seconds before kicking another field goal to make it 9-0 at the break.

The Packers opened the second half with a 64-yard drive that resulted in a field goal that made it 9-3. After that, Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson connected with wide receiver Courtland Sutton on an 18-yard touchdown pass to make it 16-3.

Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love matched that score with a 16-yard touchdown toss to receiver Romeo Doubs to make it 16-10 late in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Denver safety Kareem Jackson was ejected following a personal foul for a hit on a defenseless receiver. After that, Love later threw a touchdown pass to Jayden Reed on a tip drill that gave the Packers a 17-16 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Broncos kicker Wil Lutz converted a 52-yard field goal to give Denver a 19-17 lead with 3:50 remaining in the game. On the Packers’ ensuring drive, Love threw an interception to Broncos safety P.J. Locke, a turnover that essentially sealed a 19-17 win for Denver.

Up next for the Broncos is a home game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
