Six down, two to go.
The Denver Broncos completed in-person head coach interviews with ex-New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris in L.A. on Tuesday.
Those marked Denver’s fifth and sixth coach interviews following meetings with Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh (virtually), Denver DC Ejiro Evero, ex-NFL HC Jim Caldwell and ex-Stanford HC David Shaw last week.
The Broncos also have interviews with San Francisco 49ers DC DeMeco Ryans (Thursday) and Dallas Cowboys DC Dan Quinn (Friday) scheduled for later this week. The team is not considering these 12 coaches.
Team owner/CEO Greg Penner is leading the head coach search after firing Nathaniel Hackett last month.
Payton and Harbaugh seemed to be the top candidates for Denver’s opening before Harbaugh announced Monday that he will remain at Michigan. That leaves Payton as the top coach available, and some reports have suggested that the Broncos are the front runners to hire Payton, but it would take a trade with the Saints to do so.
We are tracking all of the Broncos’ head coach interviews on this page.
