Brock Purdy’s injury during the NFC Championship Game not only squashed the 49ers chances at winning the conference, it also clouded both Purdy’s and the team’s futures heading into the offseason. On Friday, the quarterback is clearing a major hurdle in his rehab as San Francisco heads into the offseason.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport Purdy will have surgery on his right elbow on Friday to repair his injured UCL. Earlier this week, Mike Garafolo reported that the “hope” was for Purdy to get an internal brace on his UCL, which would possibly limit his recovery time to six months.
While Purdy was supposed to get the surgery last month, it was postponed due to reported inflammation in his elbow. Even with the delay, a six month recovery would have him on the brink of returning to action for the start of the 2023 season.
In 2022, Purdy totaled 1,374 passing yards and 13 touchdowns in nine games for San Francisco, which includes five starts and an undefeated record in the regular season. Purdy and Trey Lance are at the top of the 49ers’ quarterback depth chart, but injuries ended the season for both players.
