San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a setback in his injury-plagued season during a 40-34 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday night. The injury occurred in the final minutes of the game when Purdy was sacked by Brian Branch, causing his surgically repaired throwing elbow to collide with the face mask of a Lions defensive lineman.
Purdy described his initial sensation as his elbow being 'on fire' and mentioned that he will undergo an MRI to assess the extent of the injury. Fortunately, early tests indicated no damage to the ulnar collateral ligament that Purdy had previously injured in the 2022 NFC title game against Philadelphia. Despite the discomfort, Purdy expressed hope of playing in the upcoming season finale.
