Brock Purdy ran into the stands to hug his friends and family in an emotional moment caught on camera after winning in his first ever NFL start - which happened to come against the greatest quarterback of all-time Tom Brady.
The San Francisco 49ers made a statement in a dominant defensive performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whilst scoring 35 points with their third-string quarterback Purdy.
The former Iowa State quarterback was selected with the last pick in the most recent NFL draft, with fans giving him the unwanted nickname of 'Mr Irrelevant'. However, he silenced the doubters with his performance on Sunday night.
After season-ending injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, rookie Purdy will now be tasked with leading the Niners to the Super Bowl - a team who many will favourite after their win over the Buccaneers, with their defence continuing to shine and the offense impressing.
Purdy completed 14-of-18 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover, whilst doing the simple things well in the Niners offense, before also completing some impressive deep passes.
Recently-acquired superstar Christian McCaffery had dominated throughout, rushing for 119 yards and a touchdown whilst catching a deep pass on a perfectly-timed throw from Purdy in what seemed to be a turning point for his confidence.
Purdy made a number of highlight throws in the game, with head coach Kyle Shanahan seemingly not afraid to air it out with the rookie quarterback.
The camera panned to Purdy's family on occasion, with his father looking emotional as his son outshone Brady in his first ever start in the NFL.
As well as the win being important for Purdy, it now gives the Niners a commanding lead in the NFC West, with the Seattle Seahawks losing three of their last four outings and being set to face them on Thursday night in what will be a division-deciding tie - which will give the Niners breathing room, having three weeks to continue to bed Purdy into the offense before the playoffs.
The Niners are highly unlikely to clinch a bye, with the Philadelphia Eagles three wins ahead of them.
For Tampa Bay, the loss is just the latest of a truly disappointing season - in which could be Brady's last. But whilst they have a 6-7 record, they still remain atop of their division, but are now just a game ahead of Atlanta Falcons and a rejuvenated Carolina Panthers.
