Brits with dogs on their Tinder profile get more matches than those without

Dogs really do work their magic in helping single owners charm their crush.

It has been revealed Tinder users who include a picture of their pet on their profile get five per cent more matches.

With 29 per cent of people admitting to adding a photo with a dog to their dating profiles just to improve their chances of success, it's no surprise nine in 10 young Brits state it's a "deal-breaker" if their dog doesn't like someone.

Laura Wilkinson-Rea, from Tinder said: "It’s clear that dogs are loved by Tinder members with 10 per cent of our members including ‘dog lover’ as one of their interests on their Tinder profile.

"That’s why we launched our first pop-up pub experience in May, The Bark & Spark to bring together dog lovers and their dates in real life.

"Answering singletons calls for shared experiences and providing a low-pressure way to make real-world connections, it really is a win for all four paws."

The team has been exploring which breeds have been bagging their users the most dates, with huskies coming out on top, closely followed by golden retrievers and German shepherds as the most desirable dogs for a potential match to have in tow.

A spokeswoman said: "More than a third (36 per cent) of UK young adults say they are more likely to swipe on someone’s dating profile if they have a dog in the photo and 72 per cent say they are more likely to like their social media picture.

"Not only are dogs considered to be amazing company (80 per cent), but most can agree that they give great cuddles (59 per cent) too. What’s not to love about dogs being the best dating companion."

It comes after a woman shared a major "red flag" hopeful romantics should look out for when scrolling through dating apps.

Speaking to Reddit, the woman explained how she has caught men trying to 'dogfish' her into a date by including a picture of themselves posed alongside someone else's dog on their profile.

She said: "I keep seeing profiles of guys in their late 20s to early 30s, saying 'Don't date me unless you love dogs', 'This is my best friend in the whole world' or 'I'll delete this app when my dog likes you'.

"Then I get to talking, and say what's your dog's name? And they admit that they don't have a dog. That's their sister's dog, ex girlfriend's dog, or friend's dog. They don't even know the animal's name.

"They start listing all the reasons they don't have a pet - allergies, too much responsibility, don't like smells, or don't actually like animals that much."

Fearing it's a bad sign, the woman is urging singles to 'get out while they can' to save themselves from future lies.

She added: "I'm a dog owner. It would be a major green flag when my prospective date also has a pet that he takes care of and loves.

"I think a lot of women with pets would want to match with someone with the same pet as themselves - be it a lizard, snake, fish, dog, cat or bunny."
