- A senior coroner has issued a safety warning over a Hoover tumble dryer following a house fire in West Yorkshire that killed a father and his nine-year-old daughter.
- Sohaib Ahmed, 38, and his daughter Manahal died after the blaze broke out at their home in Heckmondwike on 8 June 2025.
- An inquest determined that the source of the fire was “most likely than not” a Hoover DX C10DCER-80 condenser tumble dryer located in the kitchen.
- Coroner Martin Flemming raised concerns that up to 1.6 million Hoover and Candy tumble dryers could share similar characteristics and can burn almost completely, making defect detection difficult.
- The coroner urged the manufacturer to investigate potential internal failures, review safety campaign options, and consider halting sales of the model pending analysis.
