Lamb has been one of the foods worst hit by the rise in inflation with prices up a huge 14.2%. Fresh milk has shot up by a shocking 13.2% and butter has also soared in cost by 11.8%
There has also been an increase in the costs of a pint in a pub (4.9%) with restaurant bills up 8.1% and takeaways up 6.5%. The rate of inflation has risen to nine per cent in the latest figures as the cost of living crisis hits Brits hard in the pockets.
Energy prices drove most of the record rises in inflation seen last month, but costs in supermarkets, restaurants and pubs also added to the pressure felt by households. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that inflation hit 9% in the year to April on Wednesday, measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), which is thought to be the highest for 40 years.
