Brits livid at Christmas shopping disasters as supermarkets lose their groceries

Whether we like it or not, Christmas doesn't always go to plan.

Even for those who coast into December with all their shopping done, it's inevitable in the chaos of modern life that something will go to pot.

Brits have been taking to Twitter to share their frustrations as those last minute orders and deliveries fail to turn up, while some travellers have turned up at their Christmas destinations empty-handed due to costly airline mistakes.

From delivery disasters and lost luggage to postal palavers, these unhappy customers have posted of their nightmares threatening to unravel hopes of the big day going without a hitch.

One Twitter user wrote they had only received two of the items they'd ordered for their festivities despite sorting it nearly a month in advance.

User @Bunkerkid wrote: "[H]ow is it possible to place a click n collect order 4 weeks ago for 10 items, then, when i collect the day before xmas eve, (again, 4 weeks notice given) I’m only given 2 items as the rest is now out of stock [sic]? Absolute s*** show!"

Victoria Lewis wrote that their Christmas had been "ruined" after not received an Asda delivery.

Victoria tweeted: "[N]o food shop and no money returned thanks #AsdaChristmas2022 #Asda for leaving me with no food and no money! Plus shocking customer service".

One user meanwhile said their feast had turned up ready for roasting - but to the wrong house.

"What a joke @asda customer service are," wrote @JasonRooney10. "My Christmas shopping has been delivered to someone else & marked as delivered.

"Ring them and all they say is we can offer you a refund. Maybe get delivery drivers that can read a map & give me my food for Xmas".

And when it comes to deliveries, it's not just food Brits have been left disappointed by.

Sofas have vanished and envelopes have turned up without Christmas cards inside in just some of the mishaps to face households this season so far.

Claire Watson took to Twitter after DFS failed to deliver the sofa they'd ordered to open presents on.

"What a surprise," the unhappy customer wrote.

"Still no delivery (ordered September) guaranteed Christmas delivery… still not phone call… you are a disgrace and a shambles".

Lee Ramsden fumed after claiming Royal Mail lost multiple greetings cards, branding the service a "shambles".

"Royal mail despite sending an envelope via recorded delivery have lost 7 Christmas cards and just posted a slit envelope," Lee tweeted.

For those travelling for the Yuletide season, some have even been left without belongings after airline catastrophes.

User Misty Gale tweeted Air India after her son's luggage was lost.

"You've ruined my son's Christmas," the mum wrote in a furious message addressing the airline.

"You lost our luggage six days ago and we have had no update. Nongifts [sic]. No clothes. No word. . I’m writing to your CEO. You’re a lousy airline."

Hundreds of Hampshire residents meanwhile are facing Christmas without running water after supplies were cut to around 20,000 homes in Southampton and surrounding areas earlier this week.

Southern Water has said it hopes to restore water to homes "by Christmas Day" after the major pipe burst.

Katy Taylor, the board's Chief Customer Officer, said: "I recognise this is a massive inconvenience, this is our team's absolute priority."

One furious local raged about the situation, even tweeting MP Caroline Nokes to air their grievances.

"What a shambles", fumed Twitter user @Baldsaint. "hope you haven't got any water @carolinenokes, this is on you Tories".
