Britney Spears left fans puzzled after announcing she 'married' herself while wearing a wedding dress and veil, just a year after divorcing Sam Asghari.
The 42-year-old pop icon shared a video on Instagram, dressed in a white silk gown and lace veil, but with no groom in sight. Instead, she revealed she had married herself.
In the clip, Spears posed for the camera, adjusting her veil, with Sting’s Fields of Gold playing in the background.
She captioned the video: “The day I married myself… Bringing it back because it might seem embarrassing or stupid, but I think it’s the most brilliant thing I’ve ever done !!!”
The Circus hitmaker posted a photo of an empty church without a caption prior to her announcement and later followed up with a poolside video of herself relaxing in a yellow bikini.
Spears settled her divorce from husband Sam Asghari following 14 months of marriage in May.
Asghari filed for divorce from the Toxic singer, 42, in August 2023, and cited “irreconcilable differences” at the time.
TMZ reported at the time that Asghari hasn’t contest their prenuptial agreement, protecting Spears’ estimated $60 million wealth.
The publication had previously reported that the pop star was covering Asghari's rent for his new apartment and intended to provide him with a six-figure payment, although the exact details remain unclear.
PageSix echoed many of the same sentiments explaining that the former couple have maintained the terms of their prenup.
The outlet also claimed that Spears will keep “miscellaneous jewellery” and other personal items as well as earnings she made before, during and after their marriage.
An insider close to the pair told the publication that their divorce was settled “amicably” due to the “iron-clad prenup” they had in place.
Asghari and Spears were first linked in 2016 when he appeared in her Slumber Party music video.
After five years together, they got engaged in September 2021 and married the following June with Madonna, Drew Barrymore and Paris Hilton in attendance.
Spears was first married to childhood friend Jason Alexander, but it was annulled after 55 hours.
Her second marriage was to former dancer Kevin Federline, with whom she shares two sons, Jayden, 16, and Sean, 17.
