Pop star Britney Spears has revealed she has lost her baby through a miscarriage.
Spears and long-term partner Sam Asghari wrote in a joint statement posted on Instagram: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy.
The couple went on to say in the post on Saturday that they would not give up hope of having another baby in the future and they thanked fans for their support.
"Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family.
Asghari, an actor, commented below Spears's post: "We will have a miracle soon."
Spears, 40, only revealed her pregnancy last month after a holiday in Hawaii with Asghari, 28, and she had been posting regular updates on her condition on Instagram.
News of Spears's pregnancy had sparked joy among fans all over the world.
Spears has spoken of her desire to have more children since the end of her 13-year conservatorship, which she says prevented her from becoming pregnant.
She told a court in June 2021 that she had not been allowed to see a doctor to have an IUD (intra-uterine device) removed "because they don't want me to have children".
Spears has two sons, Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, from her previous marriage with dancer Kevin Federline.
