A toddler has tragically died after falling into a pool while on holiday in Majorca. The 17-month-old was left in critical condition after she was found in the water by her devastated family in Port d'Alcudia.
According to Spanish outlet Ultima Hora, the incident occurred at 7pm local time on Tuesday, with a life guard rushing over to perform first aid. Police, the Civil Guard and an ambulance were also called to the scene, Teesside Live reports.
Paramedics were able to revive the tot after an hour of CPR and intubate her. According to local media, the youngster was then transferred to Son Espases Hospital while still in critical condition.
However, whilst being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, the little girl tragically passed away - with her death confirmed on Friday at 5pm. This incident comes just two months following on from a seven-year-old girl who was left desperately fighting for her life, after almost drowning at a hotel pool in the same region.
In the very same month, another six-year-old boy died at another Majorca resort, after drowning in the pool. So far this summer, over 20 people have drowned in the Balearic Islands, with emergency services attending a total of 47 separate incidents.
Around 30 per cent of these cases have been children aged seven or under, Ultima Hora reports.
