British student dies in fall from fifth-floor window while on holiday with friends

A young man on a trip abroad with friends died after falling from the window of a fifth floor apartment, a coroner has been told.

Roudhan Beckwith was with nine mates on a trip to Brussels when the tragedy happened last month.

The 20-year-old student from Holmfirth, Huddersfield, had gone to Belgium on Thursday June 15 and were due to return home four days later.

The group was staying in an apartment on the fifth floor in the Anderlecht area with Roudhan in bed was located near a window, assistant coroner Ian Pears, sitting at Bradford Coroners Court, was told.

Coroner's officer, Victoria Normington told the hearing: "At some point during the night Roudhan fell from one of the apartment windows and sadly passed away from the injuries he sustained."

Roudhan's death was confirmed at 5.40am on June 16, with his cause of his death recorded as multiple injuries.

The coroner adjourned the hearing for further information to be provided by the authorities in Brussels and he requested a statement from Roudhan's family, his GP, a post mortem report and further information from police in Brussels.

An inquest into Roudhan's death is expected to be held in January next year, Yorkshire Live reports.

Last month people paid tribute to Roudhan, describing him as a kind and caring young man who had an infectious laugh and a great work ethic.

Holmfirth Vineyard, which is run by Becky and Ian Sheveling, described Roudhan as a much-loved member of the team.

"Team Sheveling are absolutely devastated at the loss of one of our own...our amazing Roudhan passed away leaving us all heartbroken…Roudhan has been with us working part-time since his high school work experience days over five years ago.

"This young man made a huge impression on all of us with his beautiful smile, infectious laugh, and his great work ethic.

"Everyone including his peers, teammates and customers alike loved him so very much and we will miss him dearly. We will not be the same team without him but we are a much better team for having known him.

"On behalf of everyone at the Vineyard our heartfelt condolences, thoughts, love and tears go out to his wonderful parents, family and little brother. We are so so sorry for your devastating loss x."
