British star sprints to fourth stage victory at Vuelta a Espana

  • Britain's Matthew Brennan secured his fourth stage victory of his debut Grand Tour by sprinting to victory on stage 16 of the Vuelta a España in La Rabida.
  • The 21-year-old cyclist from Darlington was positioned perfectly by his Visma-Lease a Bike team-mate Wout van Aert before surging ahead to beat Bryan Coquard and Vito Braet in a gripping group sprint.
  • Brennan praised his team's strategy and execution after Visma-Lease a Bike reeled in a five-rider breakaway with 30km remaining, bringing their total stage victories at this year's race to six.
  • Reflecting on his dream start to Grand Tour racing, Brennan admitted that achieving four stage wins surpassed the team's initial target of securing just one victory.
  • Spain's Enric Mas retained his lead at the top of the general classification standings, holding a cushion of over two minutes ahead of Felix Gall and Primoz Roglic, while Britain's Oscar Onley remains in fifth.
