NEW DELHI: Mark Cavendish's hopes of breaking the record for 34 stage wins at the Tour de France came to an unfortunate and cruel end on Saturday after the Briton fell off his bike with 64km left in the eighth stage.
The 38-year-old was taken into an ambulance for checks before his withdrawal was made official by race organisers. It appeared that the fall resulted in a broken collarbone for Cavendish.
