A six-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty in a hotel swimming pool in Majorca.
Corey Aughey, from Belfast, was spotted drowning in the pool at the unnamed hotel in the resort of Sa Coma on Thursday.
Several ambulances, the local police and the Guardia Civil rushed to the scene at about 5pm and paramedics managed to revive the youngster after performing CPR for almost half an hour, according to Diario de Mallorca.
He was taken to hospital in the island’s capital of Palma where he remained in an intensive care unit for three days before he died on Sunday.
The child is said to have been on holiday with his family at the hotel, located in Sant Llorenc des Cardassar, a short drive from the Love Island villa.
Confirming his death, a relative wrote on Facebook: “We as a family want to let yous know that king Corey has gained his wings.
“The family couldn't off [sic] got through it without all your support, we want to thank you from the bottoms off our hearts for all your kind donations, now we have to concentrate on getting him home.
“Please keep praying for the family to get the strength to get through the next couple off weeks.”
Corey was a scout with the 45th Belfast Scout Group, which meets at the Immanuel Church of Ireland in Ardoyne.
Paying tribute, the church wrote on Facebook: “This evening the leaders of the 45th Belfast Scout Group which meets in Immanuel received the heart breaking news that Corey, a much loved member of the Beaver Section, passed away following a tragic accident.
“Please keep the Aughey family in your thoughts and prayers during this very sad and difficult time.”

“Corey will be fondly remembered by his Beaver Leaders as being fun loving, always smiling and full of enthusiasm. We will miss him so much.
“Beaver parents have already been informed. Pastoral support has kindly been offered by our District Commissioner so if you feel a leader or young person would like to avail of this, please let me know.”
Shankill Junior Football Club added: “Shankill Juniors would like to send our condolences to 2014 player Colton Aughey, Stephen, Alana and the entire Aughey family circle on the passing of young Corey. Rest easy.”
