A 24-year-old Briton was one of 19 people killed in a bus crash in Nepal, according to police.

The bus had been transporting tourists from the popular tourist destination of Pokhara to the country’s capital, Kathmandu, when it lost control and descended 200 metres onto the bank of the Trishuli River, in the district of Dhading, on Monday morning.

There were 44 people onboard at the time of the crash, including the driver, police confirmed.

There were 25 people reportedly injured in the incident, all of whom have been taken to the hospital.

The cause of the incident is being investigated by authorities.

Nine people killed in the tragic crash have already been identified by Nepalese police.

Amongst those injured are nationals from China and New Zealand.

Abinarayan Kafle, a spokesperson for the police, confirmed that 17 people died at the scene and two others died while receiving treatment, according to the BBC.

Road accidents are not uncommon in Nepal, partially due to poor road maintenance and difficult paths in mountainous areas.

The country is home to eight of the world’s tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, and is popular among both tourists and climbing enthusiasts around the world.

In 2024, around 14 people were killed after a bus travelling from Pokhara to Kathmandu descended into the Marsyangdi River in the district of Tanahun.
