A British woman found dead on a popular Caribbean beach along with her husband is thought to have drowned while trying to save him.
The couple’s bodies were discovered on Paradise Beach in the village of L'Esterre, on the Grenadine island of Carriacou on Saturday.
Royal Grenada Police Force said it believes the deceased to be 76-year-old David John Foster, and 77-year-old Rosaline Foster.
The force initially described the tragedy as “an apparent drowning”.But Cpl Ardell Lewis later told BBC News: "The basic facts seem to suggest the man may have suffered a heart attack and the lady may have gone to his assistance, and she probably would have drowned."
The force said in a statement that Mr Foster was found in the sand and was declared dead at the scene.
Mrs Foster was taken to Princess Royal Hospital, Carriacou, where she was examined and she too was pronounced dead.
“A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” police said.
The couple are two of four people who have died while on holiday in Grenada since the start of this year.
Last month, US couple Ralph Hendry and Kathleen Brandel died in what is believed to have been a yacht hijacking.
Police have classified their deaths as homicides despite not having found their bodies yet.
Investigators think they may have been thrown overboard.
