British Airways' economy, business and first class cabins compared - from legroom to meals

British Airways cabins have been put to the ultimate test as four reviewers took the same BA flight - but each person was in a different cabin.

While most of us are likely to only experience economy class when on a BA jet, the British flag carrier also offers premium economy, business class and first class.

A search on the company's site shows the cheapest London to Washington DC return flight in October is £467 in economy, £800 in premium economy, £3,501 in business class and £4,151 in first class.

The four travel experts from the Points Guy UK decided to hop aboard a BA Boeing 777 flying from Heathrow to the US capital and try out each different class.

They filmed the result and produced a fascinating video highlighting how different an experience people on the same plane can have.

Overall, they each seemed happy with the service they received. In fact, was economy praised for the amount of legroom provided while premium received a shout out for comfort.

Ben Smithson was the reviewer lucky enough to give first class a go.

He heaped the service with praise, arguing that the food was "genuine fine dining" and good enough to be served in a five star hotel in London.

After quaffing down some fine red wine and a delicious meal, Ben was able to lean his chair right back, put his head on a crisp looking pillow and fall into a deep slumber.

He was clearly tuckered out having spent time pre-flight keeping away from the thronged masses and drinking Champagne in the Concorde Room lounge.

His only criticisms were that the plane seat did not have a sliding door - meaning no privacy - and the entertainment screens were a bit low resolution.

Liam Spencer had the second most enviable job of trying out business class for size, where he was served a chicken tikka masala which was "best curry I've ever eaten on a plane".

He got to enjoy total privacy thanks to a fully-closing door, shutting him into a cabin which was "clean" and "modern".

Liam's only gripes were that the beds were a bit narrow and un-comfy for his liking, and that the BA business class lounge at Heathrow wasn't as swish as other airline's lounges at the same airport.

Nicky Kelvin gave BA's premium economy a whirl and found the seat to be "very spacious and comfortable", while the cabin it sat in offered "an extra sense of privacy".

His food was served on "proper crockery" and was a big upgrade from economy, he said.

Nicky's only real criticism was that the seat was not perfect for sleeping in.

Down at the bottom of the class pile and at the back of the plane was Maren Gimmes.

On the plus side, her economy experience had her interacting with friendly members of staff who were quick with their service.

She was chuffed with the amount of legroom she had and the fact she was served a whole bottle of wine.

On the downside, the chicken was "very dry" and the headphones provided poor quality, Nicky said.
