British Airways and easyJet cancel more Edinburgh Airport flights amid Easter holidays

Easter holidays have been thrown into chaos for jet setters after flights from Edinburgh Airport have been cancelled.

With a total of over 100 flights effected, domestic and Europeans flight from British Airways and easyJet have been axed.

BA flights have been scrapped due to resourcing issues and their schedule changes in place until May and alerted passengers of the changes prior to today to give them a few weeks' notice.

This comes as EasyJet were forced to cancel flights due to Covid related staff absences last weekend.

The Independent reports that over 100 flights have been cancelled to and from the UK with Edinburgh Airport.

Although they have not made on-the-day cancellations, BA have scrapped domestic flights from Edinburgh Airport to London Heathrow.

BA said that passengers were warned in advance of the cancellations with the airline reducing its schedule until the end of May to limit cancelling flights at short notice due resourcing issues, according to the Scottish Daily Express.

But most of the domestic routes cancelled do have multiple daily journeys so effected passengers can be offered alternative flights on the same day.

Meanwhile, easyJet customers have also been hit with cancellations.

The route between Gatwick and Edinburgh has been axed and the airline have said that the cancellations were made “in advance to give customers the ability to rebook on to alternative flights."

Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, has said of the cancellations: “Woefully understaffed airlines have booked far more flights than they can operate this Easter, with passengers of British Airways and EasyJet seeming to be the worst affected.

“In the event of cancellations at short notice, airlines must uphold affected passengers’ legal rights to at least £220 in compensation and a refund or rerouting options, and provide refreshments and accommodation as required.

“We’ve seen numerous examples of carriers failing to inform their customers of these rights, which highlights why the Civil Aviation Authority must be given stronger powers to act when airlines consistently break the rules."
