Britain is to buy 12 new fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear bombs as Sir Keir Starmer warned the country “can no longer take peace for granted”.

Downing Street has called purchase of the fleet of F35A jets the “biggest strengthening” of Britain’s nuclear deterrent “in a generation”.
