Malakai Bayoh stunned the judging panel and viewers at home with his incredible performance on Britain's Got Talent.
The choirboy, 13, became Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer act and will be heading straight for the semi-finals after wowing the music mogul. Malakai performed Pie Jesu as he took to the stage on Sunday night and impressed fellow judges Bruno Tonioli, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon, but some viewers noticed him from his very famous duet.
The youngster has an impressive and distinctive voice, which some fans immediately recognised from his now viral performance with Aled Jones. He is no stranger to performing live and he performed at London's Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday, where he made his solo debut in a Classic FM Live concert in front of a sold-out audience, as reports the Mirror.
The 13-year-old made his debut at the Royal Opera House last year where he sang the role of Oberto in the opera Alcina, and his festive performances with Aled Jones went viral. The singer's BGT success comes after the Royal Opera House was forced to give a lifetime ban to one rude audience member who booed Malakai's performance.
"Unfortunately, the opening night of Alcina featured an audience member who disrupted the show and the excellent performance by young singer Malakai M Bayoh," they wrote on Twitter at the time.
"We would like to congratulate Malakai M Bayoh for his stellar performance as Oberto in our first night of Alcina. Malakai is astonishingly talented – bringing great acting and beautiful singing to the role – a huge accomplishment for such a young singer.
"We are appalled that a member of the audience behaved in this way and our support is with Malakai and the cast and creative team of Alcina. Steps have been taken to ensure the audience member in question does not return to the Royal Opera House."
Following his stunning performance on BGT on Sunday night, Simon rushed on stage to congratulate Malakai on his incredible performance after sending him straight to the semi-finals. Fans took to social media after the performance aired as viewers gushed over the young performer.
Rushing to social media, one viewer wrote: "Wowers Malakai’s performance was superb his voice was just beautiful every note was just perfection he totally deserved that golden buzzer from Simon and i was in bits just like everyone else while listening to his stunning voice #BGT #BGT2023 #BritainsGotTalent #GoldenBuzzer."
"Malakai was absolutely flawless. What a voice! #Requiem #BGT," a second shared, as a third penned: "WOW!!! Malakai’s music was well worthy of a golden buzzer, very angelic. Had @BrunoTonioli in tears. #BGT @SimonCowell."
