The pregnant girlfriend of a missing Brit in Brazil has received chilling messages saying "don't you realise your husband's been killed?" as it is feared he has been murdered by a gang.
Matthew Hemsley, 35, from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, has not been in contact with his family for more than a month, since disappearing in Candeias, Brazil, on May 28.
He was last seen out having a meal in a local bar before heading back home after leaving a voicemail for a friend.
So far Brazilian police have not been able to find a motive for a possible attack without any evidence or clues about his location.
Matthew lived on a farm after moving to Brazil about seven years ago and was planning to build new property on his land.
His dad Mike Hemsley has spoken emotionally about the disappearance and fears the worst.
He told the BBC, Matthew's girlfriend received a text messages saying: "Don't you realise your husband's been killed?" and "What are you doing about getting justice?'"
Mike added: "There's no rationale at the moment, and unfortunately it may have been robbery or any number of motives, but it's not known at this point."
He said that he would normally talk to his son about two or three times a week on WhatsApp and is now desperate to have some news, even the discovery of a body, so that the family can have "closure".
He told The Sun : "I'm struggling. Most of us are struggling. I get very emotional thinking about it. It's something you see on the news but it's different when it happens to you.
"We hope that his body is found to get some closure. I spoke with him two to three times a week through Whatsapp. A lot of people speak with their dad's about rubbish but he would speak about geopolitics, agriculture, farming - we had good conversations. He was a lot deeper as a person than most."
The Foreign Office has spoken to local police in Brazil over the matter.
A Foreign Office spokesperson reportedly said: "We are providing consular support to the family of a British man who was reported as missing in the state of Bahia, Brazil, and are in contact with the local authorities."
The Mirror has contacted the Foreign Office for comment.
