A newly-wed British dad has died trying to save his son when he fell the River Nile.
Robert Kaweesi, who was said to be with his wife, Justine Katantazi, and their family were at a lodge near Pakwach, when the incident happened.
The couple were with their four children, staying on the banks of the river in Uganda.
BirminghamLive reports the pair's 12-year-old son went swimming in the river at around 6.40pm on Wednesday but when he got into trouble.
His father is said to have jumped into the River Nile to help.
The boy was rescued by bystanders but Mr Kaweesi was missing.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office later confirmed Mr Kaweesi had died.
A spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Uganda and are in contact with the local authorities.”
Ms Katantazi told the BBC her husband, a UK citizen, originally from Uganda, worked as a refrigeration contractor.
He had been trying to save their son when he vanished from sight.
His wife also confirmed they had married in Uganda in early August.
Police in Uganda said Mr Kaweesi, together with his family members and a driver, were staying at Gipir and Labongo Safari Lodge located along the bank of River Nile in Pakwach.
Mr Kaweesi is believed to have lived in the UK for the last 20 years.
