A British couple mown down in a fatal road accident on holiday in Majorca have been named, as loved ones revealed they were talented ballroom dancers.
Jennifer Worth has been named as the woman knocked down and killed by a 4x4 on the island's capital of Palma on December 21.
Her partner, known only as James, was also hit in the collision while they were at a pedestrian crossing in front of Palma Cathedral, and remains in intensive care in hospital on the island.
Police on the Spanish island initially refused to release the couple's identity after confirming they were hit by the female driver of the Opel Frontera just days before Christmas.
The driver has since been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and reckless injury.
Former dental nurse Jennifer was a keen dancer, with friends now paying tribute describing her as a "bright and sunny personality".
Claire and James Taplin, who run ballroom and Latin dance classes from a school based in Southampton where Jennifer practiced, said they had been devastated by news of her death.
A message posted online by CJ Dancing, describing her as a “beloved student and friend”, said: “Jennifer was one of the most uplifting, vivacious, funny and charismatic souls you were ever likely to meet, and would light up any room.
“We were utterly heartbroken to receive the news of her accident and we cannot think of a world without her in it.”
The tribute posted on Facebook added: “Rest in peace sweet girl, dance with the angels, love you.”
Julie Middlewick, another friend of Jennifer's, said: “I am still trying to come to terms with it, she has been completely on my mind since hearing the news.
“Such a lovely and bubbly person. Going to miss your smiley face Jen. God bless and dance with the angels.”
Fellow dance student Ann Moore added: “Such sad news. I can’t really believe it. We will all miss her bright, sunny personality in our Thursday class.
“Sincere condolences to James and her family.”
Friend Gillian Klein meanwhile said: “I’m so upset by this sudden news. She was so so lovely. Condolences to her lovely partner and family. What a loss.”
Paramedics tried to revive Jennifer for nearly an hour after she was hit, discovering she had gone into cardiac arrest. She was declared dead at the scene around 7pm on December 21.
James was described as a "childhood friend" of Jennifer's, and the couple had danced together in competitions.
He remains in a "serious" condition in intensive care at the island's Son Espases hospital.
Reports from the scene said the pair were flung into the air by the oncoming 4x4, with emergency services called instantly. Paramedics were seen trying desperately to revive Jennifer, with James subsequently rushed to hospital.
Mail Online reports that a health source in Majorca confirmed on Wednesday night: “The British man taken to hospital critically injured after the accident remains serious in intensive care.”
