Pop star Self Esteem is to headline the last night of the Bristol Sounds festival at the city centre amphitheatre, it has been announced.
The Rotherham-born singer and multi-instrumentalist launched a solo career back in 2017 and has since followed up with three albums, a 2021 BBC Music Introducing award, and a 2022 Mercury Prize nomination for the album Prioritise Pleasure.
Described as a ‘maximalist pop artist’, she came to mainstream prominence with a blistering set at last year’s Glastonbury Festival, which was broadcast by the BBC, and comes to the Bristol Sounds with a full band to take over the stage on the Sunday night in the amphitheatre.

The stage name of Rebecca Lucy Taylor, Self Esteem began as one half of the band Slow Club in the early 2010s.
“Her accessible, empowering take on intelligent lyricism has delivered a number of patriarchy-smashing anthems perfect for the main stage,” said a Bristol Sounds spokesperson.
“Self Esteem’s brutally honest performance will headline her biggest ever show in the south west taking to Bristol’s harbourside for the first time, following a plethora of impressive names from Bristol Sounds over the years including Noel Gallagher, Paolo Nutini , First Aid Kit, Sigur Ros, Craig David and George Ezra. A full line up of special guests to Self Esteem will be announced in the coming weeks,” she added.
Already lined up for the Bristol Sounds series of harbourside gigs is Jacob Collier on the Thursday, June 22, and a Saturday one-day festival that includes James, The Levellers and Bristol’s own Gaz Brookfield.
Bristol Sounds is taking place from Thursday, June 22 to Sunday, June 25.
