Bristol has missed out on a regional shortlist that ranks the best pubs in the UK. Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has released its annual definitive list of the top 16 pubs across the country categorised by region - but the city hasn't made the cut this year.
It was Gloucester's The Pelican Inn that won the title in the South West category. It's a family-run, traditional ale house that's frequented by cyclists, cathedral visitors and fans attending Gloucester Rugby home matches.
Pubs in the competition are judged on their atmosphere, decor, welcome, service, inclusivity, overall impression, and most importantly – the quality of live beer, real cider and perry. The overall winner will be announced on November 30.
