Bristol Zoo Gardens will close for good this summer. On 3 September, the historic 185-year-old Zoo in Clifton will close to the public for good, before transferring the 300 species of animals to its second venue, The Wild Place Project.
Based in South Gloucestershire, The Wild Place Project is currently hiring for some unique job roles. If you're interested in a career that deviates from the norm, the chance to build on the future of Bristol Zoo could be for you.
The Wild Place Project currently spans 50 acres, and brings giraffes, zebras, cheetahs and more animals to Bristol. The attraction is known widely for its Bear Wood, 7.5 acres where raised walkways allow you to spot the venue's giant bears in their habitat.

Individual Giving and Membership Manager
Salary: £35,000
This role will focus on growing memberships and donations to the Bristol Zoological Society, which owns Bristol Zoo and The Wild Place Project. There will also be opportunity to lead the research and development of the public appeal for the capital campaign to build the new Bristol Zoo.
Development Assistant
Salary: £21,000
Fundraising is the aim of the game for this role. The post-holder will focus on supporting the delivery of a new strategy and future for Bristol Zoo.
There'll be opportunity to work on events, with invitations, guest lists and both the planning and delivery of events being part of the role. The reporting of income across fundraising platforms is also part and parcel with the job.
Catering Assistant / Event Catering Assistant / Chef / Kitchen Porter
There are a range of culinary and catering positions at The Wild Place Project and Bristol Zoo. Both part time and full time roles are available.

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Officer
Salary: £30,000
If you're passionate about improving workplace inclusivity, Bristol Zoological Society are also hiring for a Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Officer. The role is completely new, and focuses both on the workforce itself and the visitors to the attractions.
The post-holder will ensure diversity and inclusion values are embedded into the workplace culture and also ensure visitor programmes are accessible to all. Both office-based and a hybrid working policy are offered.
Horticulture Operative
Salary: £19,784
If you like being outdoors, and have green fingers, the new horticulture operative role at Bristol Zoological Society could be for you. The role involves ensuring the sustainable production of fodder, as well as the maintenance of crops, woodlands and plant collections.
