Bristol's Billy Chip is a legacy that is set to cross oceans

Bristol's history is full of wonderful individuals who have invented genius things that ordinary people use on a daily basis.

And in recent years, one young man's incredible simple idea has helped to change many people's lives - and is set to continue to do so, not just here in Bristol, but across the globe, too. Billy Abernethy-Hope was just 20 years old when he died while on holiday with his friends in 2018, but his legacy has saved not just the lives of his family members but hundreds of homeless people and rough sleepers.

You may have seen his face on posters, stickers, QR code promotions or small blue tokens you can find in coffee shops and other establishments. Billy came up with the idea of the Billy Chip - a token people can buy from such places and then give to homeless people out on the street, which they can then exchange for a cup of tea or coffee.
