Bristol Rovers have beaten the deadline to sign Newcastle United prospect Elliot Anderson.
The Gas have endured a frustrating deadline day in search of a midfielder but with less than an hour to go until the 11pm deadline they announced they had lured the 19-year-old to the Mem on loan for the rest of the season.
Callum Camps, Liam Sercombe and Jon Nolan have been linked with the Gas on deadline day, but the attentions of Joey Barton and his staff have turned to Anderson to bolster their ranks in the centre of midfield.
Anderson is a Scotland youth international who had been linked to several League One clubs, plus Championship side Luton Town this month.
MailOnline reported Barton's links at St James' Park as a former player helped sway the Magpies to loan Anderson to the Gas.
Anderson has made two appearances for Newcastle last season, one coming in the Premier League. He has been an unused substitute five times this term and had trained with Eddie Howe's first-team group.
The teenager has scored five goals from midfield in seven games for the Magpies' under-23s in Premier League 2 this season.
