Bristol Rovers football administrator departs after more than 20 years of service

Bristol Rovers' long-serving secretary David Sams has left the club after more than two decades of service.

Sams was responsible for the administration of the football operation at the club, dealing with contracts, fixture arrangements and more. He joined 21 years ago and Rovers are yet to recruit a replacement, although the process is underway.

"The club can confirm that David Sams has left after 21 years of service," a spokesman told Bristol Live. "We would like to thank David for everything that he has done for Bristol Rovers and wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

Sams, a Rovers fan as well as a longstanding employee, confirmed his departure on LinkedIn. He posted on Sunday: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who I have dealt with over the years, many friendships have formed, and I take away many memories from my time in football.

"I am looking forward to a short break before the next chapter. I’ll continue to support and watch on the terraces, where it all started as a boy at Twerton Park."

Sams joined the Gas in 2001 as assistant secretary before being named secretary in 2014. His role involved liaising with the EFL and Football Association, working with managers, transfer administration, fixture management and ticketing arrangements for scouts and press.

Several people connected with the club over the years thanked him for his service, including Marcus Stewart, Lee Mansell and Graham Coughlan.

Coughlan posted: "Thanks for all you’ve done for me at the club, you kept me going through tough times."
