Bristol Light Festival confirmed to return in 2022

Following an unpredictable few years due to the pandemic, 2022 promises to bring lots of fun and excitement.

And Bristol Light Festival is just one event we can look forward to returning after its cancellation last year, promising to bring some sparkle to the city.

The festival will bring together a showcase of renowned light artists and installations from across the UK, featuring the best of Bristol’s talent, to fill the city with colour and vibrancy.

The incredible installations first came to Bristol in 2020, lighting up the city in impressive ways and bringing Bristolians out to enjoy the city in a new way.

The festival is not only loved for the light it brings to the city but also for the fact it allows local artists to showcase their work in some of the city's most iconic places.

This year the festival will feature six world premiere works from some of the best UK light artists, all making their Bristol debut at carefully selected locations across the city.

Visitors can wander and explore the city’s streets to see the light artworks come to life and enjoy Bristol’s wonderful retail and hospitality businesses along the way; supporting some of the city's best-loved businesses and traders whilst admiring the beautiful displays.

Between March 1-6 from 5pm-10pm each day, the installations will shine a light in a few unexpected places as well as illuminating some of Bristol’s most iconic landmarks around the city centre.

The organisers of this year’s festival have been successful with a grant application to Arts Council England, meaning there will also be a selection of daylight and green energy installations, adding a new dimension to the event and the opportunity for those visiting and working in the city to experience some of the artworks throughout the day.

The safety and wellbeing of visitors is paramount to organisers and a number of Covid-19 safety measures will be implemented including social distancing and hand sanitisation stations. Artworks can be viewed from a distance and the event has been increased in length to spread out visitor numbers.

Bristol Light Festival is presented by Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID), who are working in partnership with Redcliffe and Temple BID, Arts Council England and Cabot Circus. The event has been curated by the festival’s creative director Katherine Jewkes.

The BID and the partners are focused on creating "a better Bristol that’s more caring, more welcoming, safer, cleaner, wonderfully diverse and better promoted" through the event.
